Sen. Robert Knowles warns unfunded municipal pension plans threaten city finances after a 15 month study shows rising costs not reflected in retirement contribution estimates. Pensions influence contract talks, but workers gain little from unfunded promises.
The United States received a list of 32 American prisoners from Viet Cong but rejects new conditions, insisting negotiations continue. Repatriation of the 139 held by North Vietnam and Viet Cong could begin if terms are met.
The Monroe High School production of For Her Childs Sake at the Monroe Junior High auditorium presents Gaylord Duckworth as the scheming villain, opposed by hero Fairfax Kisslebergh. Pansy Paine and supporting cast spark boos and applause as the plot unfolds involving a forged will and a family fortune.
Lt. Gov. Martin Schreiber will deliver the keynote at Green County’s annual Dutch Treat dinner for officials and spouses. The event, hosted by the Green County hospitality committee, is set for Tuesday April 24 at Marco's Supper Club.
The Assembly State Affairs Committee will hear two cable regulation bills next Tuesday. One would franchise regulate by the Public Service Commission. the other would have PSC regulate but require local franchising with state review.
