Meeting on Black Hawk school closings draws near 200 attend
About 200 residents of the Black Hawk Community School District attended a March 13 informational meeting in the high school gym. The board discussed closing Wiota and Woodford elementary schools and consolidating elementary students at Gratiot and moving the junior high to South Wayne, with questions answered but no decision made. Opposition centered on Woodford residents who prefer keeping their school open and concerns about extra bus travel. A prior gentlemen’s agreement reportedly may bar closing Woodford if residents wish to continue sending students there. The board plans a future decision.
