Juda Leader J. G. Newman Dies at 83 in Juda
J G Newman, 83, longtime Jefferson town chairman and Juda Bank of Juda president, died at St. Clare hospital after months of illness. He served 20 years on the county board and helped set a county relief policy. Born May 24 1868 in Spring Grove township, he lived in Juda and was survived by four sons, a daughter, a sister, seven grandchildren, and several brothers and a sister. The funeral will be at Juda Baptist church with burial in Mt Vernon cemetery.

Leopold to leave future plan to Belgian Parliament
Exiled Belgian king Leopold III announced he would defer his future to parliament and abdicate if that body so decides. He spoke through secretary Jacques Pirenne after an advisory referendum gave 57.7 percent support for his return, a margin seen as insufficient by many leaders. Premier Gaston Eyskens denied urging abdication.
