Frito-Lay Inc. Monroe plant posted record sales and earnings for the first 24 weeks of the fiscal year. For the 24 weeks ending Feb 15, sales reached 79,794,592, up 7 percent from last year, while earnings rose 18 percent to 3,558,933. Birkholz, a 32 year old Janesville railroad fireman, receives the Carnegie Hero Fund bronze medal and 750 dollars for pulling a 2 year old boy from a railroad trestle near Brodhead on April 26 1963. The engineer slowed the train to 8 mph as Birkholz stepped from the cab and plucked the child from danger, the boy’s shirt tearing in the process.
