Cambodian protests against Viet Cong incursions turn violent as youths set fire to embassy cars and toss propaganda papers from windows at both the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese embassies in Phnom Penh. Buildings appeared deserted during the disturbance.
In the Gulf of Mexico seven miles from a wildlife refuge, a thin oil slick and eight gushing wells lie 30 miles off southeast Louisiana. About 500 bales of hay were stacked on Breton Island beaches to absorb oil as Chevron estimates a 600 barrel daily flow since a month-long fire ended Tuesday with a 400-pound dynamite charge.
