Monroe Man Held Charged with Murder in Tucumcari
Michael Sharer a 22 year old Monroe man is held in Quay County jail Tucumcari New Mexico on murder charges. District Attorney Victor Breen says Sharers trial tentatively set for March 23 in District Court. Two court appointed attorneys named for Sharer. He is accused of stabbing a 63 year old man five times and setting his trailer on fire. The victim had been in Tucumcari about three weeks before dying January 9 and was visiting a brothel. Sharer had been in the area since November doing odd jobs.

Wisconsin court declares early abortion ban unconstitutional

Pinafore Considered Big Success by Monroeites
Monroe youths from the Junior High School presented a two act operetta Pinafore with 102 performers aged 13 to 14 from seventh and eighth grades. The 700 area residents attended the 8 p.m. show as director Maynard Heins led an eight week production with student made costumes and piano accompaniments by Sandra Hennager and Joy Fulton. A triple elopement plot and lively dancing highlighted the performance.
