Milk House Fire Damages Avon Township Farm Milk House

Fire damaged the milk house on the Burton Arnold farm Route 3 Brodhead shortly after noon Thursday. The Brodhead Fire Department saved the barn and prevented further milk house damage. Minor fire damage reported. bulk tank spared. Fire chief Don Edwards said no milk house repairs needed beyond rebuilding. Firemen responded about 12 10 p.m. and stayed over an hour. The farm is six miles east of Brodhead in Avon Township. Arnold fought the blaze with a garden hose until responders arrived.

Longtime Monroe farmer Fred Dettwiler dies at 94

Fred M. Dettwiler of Monroe a well known retired farmer active in farm groups died at 6 25 p m Thursday March 4 in Pleasant View Nursing Home Monroe He had entered the nursing home November 16 1970 He organized Green County Farm Bureau Green County Service Company and Wisconsin Farm Bureau Insurance Company He was born January 23 1877 in Monroe Township to Emanuel and Rosina Dettwiler He married Bertha Hefty March 23 1905 in St Johns United Church of Christ and lived on the Dettwiler farm now owned by his son Gilbert He was a longtime leader in local farming groups and served as superintendent of Floral Hall at the Green County Fair He belonged to St Johns United Church of Christ and the Knights of Pythias He is survived by four children nine grandchildren 23 great grandchildren and a niece Funeral services set for March 8 at St Johns United Church of Christ with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
