4 H Winners Set To Attend District Festival
Four 4-H groups from last night’s Music Festival at the Junior High School advance to district competition on April 1. Participants include Merry Monroettes vocal group, Argus vocal trio and quartet, Jolly Mixers instrumental trio, with more than 300 parents attending and 25 performances.

Norval Auman of Galena announced at a City Council meeting that a privately owned youth recreation center may open this summer in the vacant former Woolworth building near Monroe square. The Monroe Cue would offer supervised dancing table tennis billiards food and soft drinks with 19 similar centers operated by the Cue firm. Ronald L Disch and Daryl J Disch would run it on a franchise basis and seek a change to allow younger children in billiard halls.

Claude Mathews known as Barney retires after 60 plus years mostly in Albany. He sold his shop March 1 to Palmer Curless of Brooklyn who will run both locations. Mathews began in 1908 after apprenticing with N Roy Bowman and barbered in several towns before returning to Albany. He recalls long hours and numbered customers in the chair and notes remodeling of the Partridge building shop.

The Monroe City Council agreed to lower the mobile home parking fee from 12 to 10 dollars a month after a judiciary committee report by Fred R. Simpson. A public hearing is set for March 15.
