Catholic Priest Dies at 96 in Stevens Point
The Rev. Stanislaus A. Elbert, one of the nation's oldest priests, died at 96 in Stevens Point. A Polish native, ordained 68 years ago, he served central Wisconsin parishes until his 1952 retirement. Funeral services are set for Thursday at St. Peter's Church where he was pastor from 1909 to 1929.

Brace Beemer, 62, the third actor to portray the Lone Ranger, died of a heart attack in Oxford Michigan. He took the role in 1932 from WXYZ Detroit and remained until the show ended in the 1940s. Beemer served in World War I despite lying about his age and later raised horses in Michigan. The Lone Ranger character rode to justice with Tonto without lethal force.

Explosion at LaSalle Heights kills many in Montreal area
A blast at the LaSalle Heights apartment complex in suburban LaSalle kills 28, injures 50 plus and leaves about 100 missing. Lion Trainer Attacked During Amusement Park Show
A trainer prodding 12 lions onto pedestals in a cage was attacked and mauled during a Sunday performance in Thousand Oaks California. Chet Juszyk, 36, received lacerations to torso arms and legs and was treated at Conejo Valley Hospital in satisfactory condition.
