Russel H. Shultz of Monroe, 50, died from a heart attack while fishing near the Ralph May farm in Lafayette County. He operated an excavating business and was a general contractor. Born July 23, 1915 in Warren Illinois, he married Betty Zimmerman in 1944 and lived in Monroe since.

Kraft executive Drake honored on 40th anniversary
Monroe native Brad ford M. Drake comptroller of Kraft Foods Division National Dairy Products Corporation was feted for forty years with the company. William O. Beers Kraft president presented the service award. Drake started at Phoenix Cheese in 1926 and rose through roles including comptroller of the central production division and international headquarters chief accountant before his 1964 appointment. Drake and wife Edna May live in Chicago with a son and daughter. Beers, a Monroe native, was named Kraft Foods Division president in 1965 and enjoys time at a northwest Green County farm.

Tragic Death At Zoo After Elephant Winkie Attacks Child
Nine year old Ruth Ellen Freedman died after slipping near the Henry Vilas Park Zoo elephant cage in Madison. Winkie the 23 year old import from India seized the girl with her trunk and trampled her in the cage. Prof Ralph Freedman of Princeton University, visiting UW Madison, witnessed the tragedy as his daughter died of injuries at the hospital. Coroner Clyde Chamberlain called the death likely caused by the elephant's feet after the girl was inside the cage.
