Firemen Extinguish Grass Blaze Near New Airport
Monroe firemen responded to a grass fire Saturday night just east of the new airport on Highway 59. Fire chief Josef J. Benkert said two unidentified Evansville men helped prevent spread to a nearby field. The blaze burned about 100 feet along the south bank of the highway. The alarm rang at 10 04 and crews were on scene for about 30 minutes.
