A 17 year old Monroe high school 1955 graduate Thomas Cunningham was named recipient of the Lions Club scholarship at a club meeting at Swiss Whee restaurant. He will receive $90 for the first semester and $90 for the second if he maintains a C average. Cunningham plans pre medical studies at the University of Wisconsin in fall. He graduated with high scholastic honors and was on the honor roll every six weeks. He spent five years in band four in orchestra and pep band. He has worked at Blumers drug store for two and a half years.

Inquest Scheduled in Lafayette Death
Richard Barth Lafayette County coroner announced an inquest into the death of 17 year old Emil Victor Baumgartner Jr found Saturday in the Seymour cheese factory. Barth said death by strangulation with a shirt around the neck appears accidental and no autopsy was performed. Services were held at Darlington Evangelical and Reformed Church with burial at Union Grove cemetery. Survivors include his parents a sister and two grandfathers.

Robert E. Maurer, 26, of 1617 15th street, is in good condition at St. Clare hospital recovering from a foot injury sustained when his foot was caught in the main press at The Evening Times yesterday about 2:40 p.m. A deep laceration and a broken bone prompted treatment at Monroe Clinic before transfer. Maurer was atop the press guiding a roll of paper when his foot became entangled in a gear.

Farmer To Face Charge in Death
A 44 year old Town of Union farmer Gordon Smith will be arraigned in Eau Claire County Court on a manslaughter charge in the death of neighbor Robert Guthrie 52 president of the Wisconsin Live stock Breeders Association. Guthrie's body was found in the Chippewa River about 25 miles from his farm after an autopsy showed death from a brain injury after blows to the head. Smith surrendered voluntarily and told authorities he fought Guthrie about 6 am and used only his fists. Witnesses said Guthrie walked to his car and drove away.

Missing Marines Sighted in Pacific Raft Search
A U S Marines fliers missing for three nights were seen signaling from a tiny life raft about 123 miles south of Tokyo. An Albatross plane and B 50 aircraft searched the foggy western Pacific as two crews circled to locate the two men, one of whom is identified only as a second lieutenant. The Navy did not release the other man’s name. The search spread over 20 000 miles of ocean as ships and planes lit the area with flares. The wife of one missing man, Mrs David Winton Bell, arrived in Minneapolis with their five year old son, giving a personal detail amid the international effort.
