Flood Hurts Ashland as Rivers Rise and Roads Go Off Limits
About 1,000 people were homeless as floodwaters swelled Ashland county. The Bad river and White River breached dams and inundated villages, but no lives were lost. Ashland roads opened briefly as rail lines remained blocked. bridges washed out and several homes demolished. Four men narrowly escaped injury when a bridge span collapsed into Chequamegon Bay. Hastings 19 Hurt In Night Truck Crash Near Martintown
Yui Hastings of Winslow NL aged 19 lies in very critical condition at St. Clare hospital after a late night crash on a gravel state line road west of Martintown. He suffered a broken neck skull jaw and several ribs in the 11:50 pm accident while returning home from fishing in a 1926 Model T pickup. a car driver nearby reported Hastings vanished from view then the wreck was found. Monroe police and an American Legion ambulance crew rushed to the scene and transported him to hospital.

Teddie Thompson aged 46 of Adams Township died at 4:30 p m in St Clare hospital from poisoning after being found unconscious in a Ludlow hotel rest room. Investigating Undersheriff Matt Solliran and Coroner Herman A Stuessy report a carbolic acid wrapper was found. Thompson born April 10 1900 married to Mabel Everson July 30 1919. survivors include wife five daughters Merlin son two brothers two sisters and two grandchildren. House Sends Draft Compromise Bill to Senate for Action
