New York stock market continues an irregular advance this afternoon with trading at the heaviest pace of the week.

Green County Historical Society names new directors

Three directors were elected at the annual meeting held at Ludlow Memorial Library. They are Mrs. L. J. Schroeder John F. Kundert and Lyman Pitkin who was re elected. Pitkin chaired the meeting which discussed turning the former Universalist Church into a museum and moving artifacts from two school houses stored since 1958. Representatives from the State Historical Society will assist Monroe plans for displays.

Innocence claimed by Alfonsi Hutnik in lobby probe

Wisconsin lawmakers Paul Alfonsi and Willis Hutnik and Milwaukee banker Howard Meister face bribery charges in a Dane County Grand jury lobby probe. Alfonsi and Hutnik deny the allegations about accepting payments to back an accelerated highway bill. Meister is charged with directing a lobbyist to solicit a vote repeal the branch banking ban. Trials set for July 6 and July 11. Meister defends his name and branch banking principles.

Msgr Foley Resigns as Loras College President

Bear Shot Near Kansas City After Wandering Outside Habitat

A second black bear, about 170 pounds, was killed by sheriff's deputies Wednesday night roughly 30 miles west of downtown Kansas City. The animal had strayed from its Arkansas Ozarks homeland in search of ripe fruit as bears have been ranging farther than usual.

Two More Children Drown in Wisconsin

The Associated Press reports two Wisconsin children drowned amid heat wave crowds at lakes. Wanda Gabel, 11, of Milwaukee, died at Big Muskego Lake. John Egan Jr., 2, of Superior, drowned at Amnicon Lake near Superior. The boy wandered from his cottage yard and was found by his father.

Ten Month Old Burns in Browntown Coffee Accident

Ten month old Ken Allen Runkle son of Mr and Mrs Melvin Runkle Browntown is in satisfactory condition at St Clare Hospital with first and second degree burns to chest and back after spilling hot coffee on himself. He was admitted at 10 05 p m Tuesday.
