Spring Pig Crop Totals Reach 59 Million Head in 1949
Agriculture department survey shows the 1949 spring pig crop at 59,040,000 head, up 15 percent from 1948, with fall crop forecast near 37,000,000. Total 1949 production could near 96,000,000, the largest since 1943, as pork supplies rise while beef and lamb shrink. Government price supports and possible subsidy plans loom over future markets. Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota lead state figures in spring sow numbers.

California residents Mr and Mrs L E Arndt of Los Angeles enjoyed Monroe farms and friendly locals during a visit that ended at noon yesterday. They planned to visit Chicago relatives at Assembly Park before heading to Delavan Lake, then on to Canada. The retired musician now plays with the Glendale Elks band, which won a national title two years ago, and they plan a Hawaii-bound band trip next year.
