William L. Allen aged 25 of Rockford drowned while swimming in the Rock River Monday night during a rain storm.

CBS television commentator Don Hollenbeck was found dead by gas in his midtown New York hotel apartment. A World War II era war correspondent, Hollenbeck was 49 and a Lincoln Nebraska native. He joined AP in 1937 and transferred to San Francisco in 1939 before resigning a year later.
