Firemen and Civil Defense Complete Rescue Course

A class of 36 firemen and Civil Defense personnel from New Glarus and nearby areas finished a Fire and Rescue course sponsored by the State Bureau of Civil Defense. Certificates will be awarded at the next firemen meeting. instructor Lester Shore commended Fire Chief Jake Bruni for enrollment.

Girl Found Unharmed After Racine Search

Racine police announced Debra Sue Larsen six years old was found four blocks from home after a two day search. A woman saw the girl exit a car and noted the license plate informing officers of the vehicle involved. The child appeared unharmed and was found just before noon.

A 27 year old housewife from Rockford Illinois says a supposed helpful motorist stalled her car then beat her unconscious in a farm field before searchers found her. Charlene Kay O'Brien was left in critical condition with deep gashes and multiple fractures after the assault and car theft.

Tragedy From Skies Hits Hampton Neighborhood

A Marine jet collided with another plane over a shopping center and crashed into Old Buckroe Road in Hampton. Two people, a mother and her infant son, died, 40 were injured, and 11 remained hospitalized as rescue crews searched the debris filled area. The crash caused widespread destruction including burning debris in yards and damage to homes as witnesses recounted the scene.

New County Dairy Queen Named in Monroe

Dianna Isely wins the county title in Monroe after a Rotary Club luncheon coronation. Judges from Albany Browntown and New Glarus interviewed three finalists, with Isely receiving a $25 savings bond and a path to Monticello for further judging along with nine other community winners.
