William Beckman Dies at 86 in Monroe City

William F. Beckman 86 died at 7 25 am at St Clare hospital after a stroke and recent surgery. A long time Monroe civic leader he served 24 years on the city council first for Third Ward then Fourth Ward after redistricting. He chaired the Board of Public Works and was active on the Clarno Township school board and a sawmill operator. He is survived by five sons a daughter 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Bull attack injures Woodford farmer near cows

Samuel Pehl, 59, of Woodford, is in satisfactory condition at St. Clare hospital after a morning bull attack while gathering his cows. He suffered multiple bruises a broken nose several broken ribs and possible internal injuries. No visitors will be allowed for a few days.

Dairy Queen Crowned During Brodhead Dairy Day

A 15 year old Monticello girl Susan Disch was crowned the 1958 Green County Dairy Queen in Brouneau at 1 p.m. The ceremony preceded a talk by Prof. Frank Wilkinson and a 2 p.m. parade. She will represent the county at future dairy events and is active in school and church activities.
