East Luther Valley church marks the completion of its 108 year old building project with a dedication service at 2:30 p.m. led by Dr. Martin Anderson. Rev. The revival spans 1844 origins, multiple pastors, and two rebuilds, culminating in a modern831 church and adjoining parsonage opened after 1952 remodeling.

Pioneer Factory Closes Near Monticello Wisconsin
The Pioneer cheese factory south west of Monticello in Washington township shut down after 50 to 60 years of operation. In the last two years only four patrons remained, with five patrons over the prior six years. Last patrons: T Herman Graber president Wilvert Hefty secretary Carl Rufer Roy Hess. Hess joins Clarence Holcomb farm. Graber and Hess haul to Town Hall Hefty to Milwaukee Cheese Co Monroe Rufer milk supply to Pet Milk Co New Glarus. Frehner moved with Mrs from factory living quarters to Von Allmen apartment 2103% 9th street.

Miss Bengelsdorff marked her 90th birthday with a long bus trip to Milwaukee to visit relatives. She has lived in her current home for over 70 years and was born in Freeport on June 20, 1862. Her family included notable half brother Burt A. Rice, a Milwaukee photographer who died in 1946, with niece Mrs. Virginia Strom among her frequent visitors.

A bolt of lightning at 9 a m struck the Mrs Amanda Paulson residence corner 13th street and 4th avenue causing a fire in a tool shed and burning it to the ground. Elderly Jay Marsh nearby was knocked from a rocking chair while Mrs Ed Skogan and Mrs Vilah Steiner were jolted by the shock. pictures and knickknacks were moved or knocked loose as telephones failed. The strike followed tree roots into the ground tearing shingles from the house and knocking contents from shelves. Mrs Paulson was away and neighbors felt the force of the shock. Heavy rain accompanied the event from about 7 to after 10.

Volunteers Hear Air Watch Needs
About 100 residents attended a two hour training session at New Glarus village hall on ground observation for air defense. Air Force men from Chicago warned of possible mechanical failure and said ground crews would supplement radar posts. Jacob Burkhalter 90 of 1729 16th street Monroe resident for 66 years died at 10 15 p m yesterday. Swiss born Aug 25 1861 he came to America 1886 and returned to Switzerland 1887 to marry Elizabeth Neuenschwander. He operated early cheese factory supply business from home 1891 then 1906 on west side of square. His tools later moved to Baumgartner’s and then a larger site owned by Reinhard Mueller. He was a cheese maker in Switzerland and Green County and Dodge County for a year. Survived by widow 90, daughter Mrs Ida Lundgren, nieces and nephews. Racketeers Costello Kastel Cited For Tax Evasions
Senate claims the Treasury failed for years to collect delinquent income taxes from racketeers Frank Costello and Philip Kastel. Williams said $315,156 of Kastel taxes were marked off with assets unrecovered, while Costello’s $25,000 claim was cleared after a cash lien in a New York taxi. Costello and Kastel testified and faced contempt charges. Costello was sentenced 18 months, Kastel's Louisiana charge was dismissed.

A spectacular blaze in Stoughton Wisconsin destroyed three large petroleum storage tanks holding 15 000 to 20 000 gallons each. Welders sparks started the fire as flames spread along pipes. About 100 volunteers built dikes and Madison Oregon and Edgerton firemen assisted. Nearby Milwaukee Road traffic halted while hoses were laid. Foreman S J Fosdal could not estimate the damage.
