Liano Fisher of Browntown was set for sentencing in county court by Judge Harold Lamboley after pleading guilty to operating a vehicle without the owner's consent. Fisher was arrested for taking Ed Ross’s car from Browntown route 1 last Friday, with officers continuing their investigation today.

A Senate appropriations subcommittee restored nearly the bureau recommendation for the Office of War Information, approving 39.75 million dollars. With full Senate committee approval likely, the OWI will face a conference with the House which had voted 18 million.

President Truman began a westward journey at 8 20 a m by air for a 11 hour non stop flight to Olympia Washington then to San Francisco for the United Nations security conference He planned a social visit to Gov Man C Wall green before the closing session and a charter signing ceremony with delegates from 50 nations The White House noted the trip would proceed even if the charter writing runs into next week The return plan includes presenting the charter to the Senate for ratification prior to meetings with Stalin and Churchill on European peace terms The security conference discussed banning Franco Spain from UN membership via a proposal by former Mexican ambassador Quintanilla The conference final session with a Truman closing address remains tentatively set for next Saturday
Lt Gen Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr died of wounds from a Japanese shell during a climactic assault on Okinawa. He was 58, known for aggressiveness and discipline, and was the highest ranking American to die in the Pacific. Maj Gen Roy S Geiger assumed command of Tenth Army. Nimitz praised the fallen general.
George F. Kull of Madison is appointed secretary of the Wisconsin Manufacturers' Association and named Wisconsin representative to coordinate reconversion efforts with the federal Smaller War Plants Corporation.
Japanese propagandists in Tokyo insisted today that Japan seeks no peace and will not surrender unconditionally. Radio Tokyo declared the people have no choice but to die, while Domei news agency said Japan never proposed peace negotiations with the United States and Britain.
