Irrigation Transforms Wisconsin Central Sands Farmland
The central sands in Wisconsin shift from drought and wind erosion to rich yields thanks to electric powered irrigation. Land values rose from 6 to 12 dollars per acre postwar to as high as 500 dollars, with corn yields reaching 175 bushels per acre and potatoes totaling about 13 million dollars in harvests annually. Wisconsin Power and Light outlines plans to sustain energy for farms, urban needs, and broader development.
