Queen Balloting Nears Completion in Dairy Queen Contest
Judges for Monroe Dairy Queen contest were named by James Volkert including Thomas Hartwig Donald Liedschlag and Volkert’s wife Pat. Top three vote getters will be interviewed next Monday at 7 30 p m in the Community Room of the First National Bank. Nine county finalists will be named later at a Queens Banquet in Monticello. The county winner will be crowned at Dairy Day in Monticello and reign for a year.

Cow sinks into ground as house falls in Kansas City
Mrs. Bennie C. Stewart watched her cow disappear into the earth on January 3 as a sinkhole opened beneath her home. Eighteen days later the earth cracked the house in two, forcing the couple to move. The incident prompted a spate of lawsuits over the strange accident.

Rites set for Paul Jaggs killed in Oshkosh crash
Funeral services for 22 year old Paul A Jaggs of Oshkosh and formerly of Brodhead and Argyle will be held at 2 pm Thursday at Argyle Lutheran Church with Rev Lyman Oman officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. He died from a skull fracture after his motorcycle hit a train at an Oshkosh crossing. His brother Peter arrived from Charleston Navy base. Parents Adolph and his wife live in Elkhorn. He planned to marry Marilyn Fritz of Oshkosh on July 9. He previously worked as a chef in Madison and at Winnebago State Hospital in Oshkosh. He was a former Argyle High School student and Platteville State University attendee.

Water Board guests observed the city fluoridation setup during a monthly meeting. Kenneth Mayer explained the process adding fluoride at 12 parts per million with an antisiphon unit to prevent overdose. Daily readings track material left, and monthly reports go to the State Department of Health. Three units are in operation at Well No 5 by the overhead bridge on Highway 69 North, and Well No 4 near the incinerator.
