Wisconsin weekend toll climbs to eight deaths

The state reports eight weekend fatalities and 372 for the year with multiple new deaths. Robert A. Frost, 18, of Rudolph, died in a hit and run on Business U.S. 51 near Plover. Mrs. Jane Dopson, 51, and her daughter Cheryl, 9, died in a Monroe County car crash. Michael Johnson, 23, of Omro, died in a two car collision near Oshkosh. Additional deaths include Mrs. Arnold Kobernick and four others in separate Saturday night incidents.

Wisconsin waters claim six in weekend drownings

The weekend saw six drownings across Wisconsin including a 2 year old in a Jackson County pond and youths in Granton Lake Arbutus and other sites. Authorities listed victims as Brian Peterson 2 of Melrose Bradley Garbisch 13 of Granton Steve Bass 25 of Lyndon Station George Leandry 21 of Marinette Roger Cornwell 21 of Waureka and Emil Gehrig 63 of Oconomowoc with ongoing recoveries and investigations.

In Waubeka Wisconsin about 400 people gathered at the schoolhouse where Barnard Cigrand began Flag Day in 1885. Marcus Schwab of Appleton urged Americans to honor the flag as a parade with 25 bands moved along Cigrand Avenue.

Violence erupts in Albuquerque crowd clashes injure 13

Seven slain in Detroit dope pad execution style

DETROIT AP Seven persons were shot to death and an eighth wounded critically in what homicide officers call execution type slayings in a suspected narcotics dwelling on Hazelwood Street near 12th Street. Four women were found tied with arms behind them in the first floor living room. Police found heroin and about a dozen guns in the house as detectives investigate a narcotics underworld power struggle amid about 25 narcotics connected homicides this year.

Groppi Arrested Near Yale Amid Commencement Unrest

Rev. James Groppi, a militant civil rights priest, was arrested near Yale University during clashes as about 350 demonstrators failed to break a police line. Five people were taken into custody as striking university employees threatened to disrupt the commencement.
