Rain swollen streams in Green County carried soil and plant nutrients toward the Gulf as three to four inches of rain washed topsoil from farms into lowlands and rivers. The deluge left corn roots exposed, silted pastures, eroded hillsides, and damaged oats hay and roadside gravel.

Benjamin Knouse of Monroe is in serious condition at Madison General Hospital after a lightning strike at the West Middleton Verona Co op cheese plant during a storm. The bolt hit near a transformer as Knouse worked and left him with a paralyzed right side. coworker Alfred Abplanalp near the scene aided him. A prior accident Tuesday saw a factory truck crash on Highway 69 spilling Swiss cheese.
Senator Brien McMahon told the Connecticut State Democratic convention he would direct the Atomic Energy Commission to manufacture hydrogen weapons in four figures if elected president. He argued this would deter war and buy time to pursue peace.

The March average price paid for Swiss cheese at factories was 3.80 with February at 4.02.
