DeBruin Named State FFA Chief in Wisconsin

Gerrit DeBruin of Monroe today was named president of the Wisconsin Association of Future Farmers of America during the state convention at Green Lake. A Juda/J Monroe area native and University of Wisconsin Madison freshman, he previously served as a state regional VP for Section 5 and has earned multiple honors in FFA and judging contests.

Monroe Transfuses Community with Red Cross Blood Drive

During the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit at the National Guard Armory Monroe donated 184 pints, 34 pints over quota of 150, with 192 donors total. Mrs. Clarence Rufer and Mrs. Robert Phillips led as blood and publicity chairmen, while Drs. Kindschi Barry Miller assisted. Dozens of volunteers from Jaycettes, churches, and Monroe High School groups staffed nurses, canteen, registration, and donor recruitment roles.

Five Monroe FFA members named state farmers at convention

At the 44th State FFA Convention in Green Lake Monroe Chapter members earned State Farmer Degrees. Larry Buetzer received a State Livestock Proficiency award for swine and two Monroe leaders Larry Weckerly and Jim Nuckles joined Tim Eberle and Calvin Wasserstrass as State Farmer Degree recipients. Others include Randy Wyss and Calvin Wasserstrass with prior roles.

Nixon to unveil major inflation fighting plan nationwide

President Nixon will address the nation at 7 30 p m CDT to outline a major new program to curb inflation. He will meet Cabinet at 4 30 p m and then confer with bipartisan congressional leaders. Officials describe the plan as a firm but moderate operation, possibly tightening wage price controls and other anti inflation steps.

Striking carpenters hinder hospital remodeling progress

Green County Board of Supervisors heard that remodeling at the Public Medical Institute and upgrades to the Green County Hospital kitchen and infirmary stall due to a carpenter strike and picketing. Electricians remain working. a negotiating session was scheduled. Project target dates include June 30 for PMI and late February to early March 1974 for kitchen work. The board also approved a uniform county purchasing system and rezoning two land tracts near Brodhead from highway interchange to residential.
