Assembly Favors Tax Discount and Penalty Shift
The Wisconsin Assembly approved an amendment to raise state revenue by canceling the 2 percent tax payment discount and imposing a 2 percent penalty for late filers. The measure, 61 to 28, would add about 1 million dollars yearly, totaling 4 million to cover a deficit. The bill also adds medical deduction increases and family considerations, and expands highway mileage under state control. A separate Senate bill on highways was amended to include about 3,000 miles. The Assembly killed a bill to make insanity an ground for divorce and concurred with a proposal to bar judges over 70 from taking office.
