Magda Herzberger's poem collection The Waltz of the Shadows was published this spring by Monroe Public Schools. The book features a Provative pen sketch by Monica Rickoff and completes 12 years of work. Herzberger has written since 1963 and first submitted a poem in 1971.
A Monroe educator published 83 pages of autobiography and wartime poems drawing on experiences during World War II and Nazi concentration camps. Talks before students and public audiences frame the collection, later printed for classroom use and personal copies. The work highlights faith hope and freedom amid Holocaust suffering. The Waltz of the Shadows accompanies her moving message.
Mrs. Herzberger, wife of neurosurgeon Dr Eugene Herzberger, promotes freedom in her poetry including Life Without Liberty her first published poem. She travels to speak on Respect for Life panels and shared an emotional response from a mother at a church gathering. On May 22 Beloit Life Counseling Center honored her with a surprise reception attended by 200 guests to celebrate her new book and a banquet followed.
A Beloit Life Counseling event at Beloit Country Club honored Dr. Herzberger with a medallion for life truth and light. Attendees included Dr. and Mrs. Herzberger and St. Clare Hospital guests. A Star Zenith Boat Club reception followed with poetry readings and a book display. Copies of the book were offered for sale by the Evening Times.
