Tornado Devastates Topeka Kansas Twister Toll

A Wichita Topeka dispatch reports a 15 mile tornado path through eastern Kansas including Topeka. Twelve killed in Topeka and 13 total dead, nearly 600 injured, millions in damage. Dozens homeless. National Guard deployed. Washburn University campus and statehouse hit. extensive damage across Garden Park and the municipal airport.

Two Die in Florida Alma Heads 'Up the Gulf'

Hurricane Alma moved along Florida’s west coast with 90 mph winds. In St Petersburg water rose three to five feet. roads and bridges to offshore islands closed. The storm’s path spared Tampa but caused deaths in Florida Cuba Honduras and widespread damage along the Gulf coast.

Park program registration set for Friday and Monday

Registration for four park programs was canceled this afternoon and will be held tomorrow and Monday. Little League baseball directed by Kim Kindschi at Twining park for ages seven to eleven times vary. Pony league players register at Recreation park from 1 to 2 p.m. All boys 12 to 15 eligible. Softball for girls in grades four to eight at Twining park with 11 to noon tomorrow. Tennis registration runs 9 to 9:45 for grades four to seven and 9:45 to 10:30 for older students on both days.

Alderman Cop lien chairs the license committee as a clas B liquor license objection hearing is scheduled for 1 30 pm next Wednesday June 15 in City Hall council chambers Attending will be Cop lien Kirchner and Chambers The hearing follows accusations by former Mayor Schiller against Ludlow Bar owner Baltzer and operator Keegan and is expected to include defense arguments from Baltzer and Keegan plus possible legal counsel. Concert Season Opens Monday at Courthouse Square

Monroe City Band starts its 17th summer season with a Twilight Concert from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday on Courthouse Square. Directed by Allan F. Barnard, the program features Star Spangled Banner and Zacatecas followed by Il Re Pastore Seventy Six Trombones Misty and other pieces. The High School Symphonic Band Brass Quartet joins for Humor esqe. Prom to Feature Misty Moonlight at Monroe High

Storm Roars Through Chicago Suburbs Killing Child

A fierce wind and rain storm raked suburbs northwest of Chicago causing one child death and widespread damage from Glenview to Wheeling. A 3 year old girl from Wheeling died when a trailer was overturned near Wheeling. her father was hospitalized with leg fractures. Wrecked structures included a 256 foot radio tower at Arlington Heights and damage at Pal-Waukee Airport and Rolling Meadows. Official wind gusts reached up to 100 mph with several injuries reported and extensive power line outages.

Schutte Youth Hurt in Mishap

Mr and Mrs George Schutte of Monroe report their son Pierre Schutte was struck by a car near Bridgeport Nebraska. Pierre is listed in satisfactory condition with a serious leg injury.
