Monroe students James N Roethe and Thomas N Mitchell were among 69 UW Madison students honored at the All University Honors Convocation for outstanding work in university studies. Maude Morris Hare Graduated Monroe High In Three Years
65 years ago Maude Morris, now Mrs. Maude Hare of 1421 16th St, completed Monroe High School in three years after eight grades at Van Matre School Wiota Township. She graduated in 1901 with 98 average, studied Latin and German, class of 22. She later taught two Lafayette County years, earned $25 then $30 monthly, boarded at a farm, milking six cows daily, widow of Loren Hare who died Oct 15, 1958.

Train Derby Near Semyleton Injures 24 in Iowa
Twenty four persons were injured when a Union Pacific City of Los Angeles passenger train derailed near Semyleton Iowa. Aspinwall Dies In Road Mishap Near Belmont
Aspinwall died after a Friday afternoon car truck crash on Highway 151 a mile north of Belmont. Rudolph Karlen 55 of Wausau was hospitalized in Darlington while Paul Foley 52 of Belmont in serious condition at a Madison hospital. Aspinwall and Karlen were returning to Wausau from Davenport Iowa when the collision occurred. Foley drove a truck for William Eustice and Sons Trucking Co Belmont and was entering the highway from a side road. Aspinwall was dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital Darlington.
