Draft Induction Plan Faces Delay If Congress Approves
Army chiefs told the House Appropriations Committee that a 30 000 youths per month draft would start by July 1 but may be delayed to September or October if legislation passes. A proposed amendment would require presidential call for any draft, delaying automatic mobilization. The current selective service would call all single non veterans ages 19 to 25 and would grant 18 year olds a one year respite. Public impact was not anticipated to be great amid procedural confusion.
