Bible Classes Start Monday at Four Monroe Churches

Rev. James C. Plymire announces Daily Vacation Bible School classes to begin Monday in four Monroe churches. The programs divide by grade levels four and five year olds Grace Lutheran third graders Presbyterian sixth graders and St John’s first through fifth graders. Classes run 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday until June 21 with 25 cent registration due Monday morning at each church.

Body Identified Pattat Family in Pecatonica River

The body of Clarence Pattat, 53, a Freeport welder of 35 years on the Illinois railroad, was identified after floating in the Pecatonica River. He had been missing since November 21. Services set for 1:06 p.m. Thursday at Burke Tubbs funeral home in Freeport. Surviving are a daughter, four sons, and three sisters. Coroner reports no foul play indicated.

Pickett Wins $1,000 Accordion Scholarship

Kenneth Pickett of La Crosse and Monroe, aged 12, won a $1,000 scholarship for accordion talent. The prize grants one year of lessons with Charles Magnante and a chance to audition for Ted Mack TV Amateur Hour in New York. Dan Lebakken announced the sponsor and the April contest saw Pickett prevail over 60 finalists.

Albany teacher suffers ankle fracture at school

Esther Osborne of Albany who teaches at Evansville fractured her left ankle in a fall at school yesterday. She was admitted to St. Clare hospital at 4 45 p m. local authorities reported. Mr and Mrs Kay Chesebro of Highway 69 returned from a week of fishing at Schiodton Marsh near Monticello and the John Gillum cottage about 200 miles north of here. The report notes a heavy recounter from Belleville toward Burgy Flats south of Monticello.
