Monroe High Students Earn Instrumental Music Awards

Five Monroe high school students earned gold cups for Community Service in the Field of Instrumental Music during Awards Day in the new gym. Points ranged from 44 to 84 based on extra credits beyond band or orchestra, with Sally Fritz leading at 84 and Ruth Benkert among those receiving honors.

Green County first waitress earns Mr. Moo dollar

Daisy Tresner at Crystal Tower becomes the first Green County server to receive one dollar from Mr. Moo. She served lunch to a Mr. Moo who asked for milk. A countywide June Dairy Month promotion features future Mr. Moo appearances and silver dollars for waitresses who highlight dairy products.

Blythe Myers Wins Legion Athletic Award at Monroe Honors

Blythe Myers, son of Helen Myers, earns the American Legion athletic award at Awards Day in the new high school gym. He played football and track, was a baseball catcher, attended Badger Boys State in 1958, and earned a scholarship to Whitewater State College starting September. He is the 36th Monroe high athlete honored by the local Legion post and will have his name added to the school plaque.

Graduation Tonight Climaxes Senior Week at Monroe High

Graduation exercises at 8 p m in the new Monroe High School auditorium close a week of events honoring 123 seniors. Hope College president Dr Irwin Jacob Lubbers will speak. Valedictorian salutatorian and citizenship winners to be announced.

City Band to Perform Concert in Lincoln Park Monday

The Monroe City Band announces its first concert Monday June 8 at 8 p.m. in Lincoln Park conducted by Allan F. Barnard. The varied program includes selections from The Music Man with a vocal duet by Greta Pitkin and Tom Marean and features Beverly Flaherty on accordion, a saxophone quartet with Joan Swiggum and Larry Gardner, and Pitkin and Marean.

Church School Theme Chosen for Daily Vacation School

The Monroe Council of Churches selects God and His World as the theme for the annual Daily Vacation Church School running Monday through Friday June 8 to 19. Participating churches include Immanuel EUB St John Grace Lutheran Bethel EUB First Methodist First Universalist and Union Presbyterian. Rev Jesse R Dom serves as dean. Offerings fund mission work with Wisconsin migrant children in week one and overseas children via the Airlift Peter Rabbit program in week two. Classes meet by site with morning sessions and adjusted times for different grades.

Gen Twining cancels speaking at Wisconsin Bankers meeting

General Nathan F. Twining 61, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Monroe native, will not speak at the Wisconsin Bankers Association meeting in Milwaukee on June 16 after lung surgery May 12. Summer swimming and playground programs begin in Monroe
