MHS Baccalaureate Service Draws Large Crowd

A large crowd gathered at the Junior High School auditorium Sunday night for the annual seniors Baccalaureate services. 227 graduates heard Rev. Massive artillery barrage targets Viet Cong staging area near Cambodian border

U S artillery fired 20 guns delivering about 2000 shells over five hours into a suspected North Vietnamese staging area west of the Cambodian border near Krasang. The attack followed a renewed push by South Vietnamese forces from Prey Veng as crews reported bunkers breached and munitions stored.

Green County records fifth fatality during Memorial Day weekend

Jeffrey R. Schubert, 17, of Lena, killed in a head on crash near Monroe. He was the second local family member lost in auto crashes in two years. The incident raises Wisconsin’s 1970 Memorial Day weekend toll to 405 highway fatalities over a 54 hour period.

Lion's Horse-Pull Bar-B-Q Proves Highly Successful

Bromfield Brothers team won the 3200 pound class at Monroe Lions Club horse pulling contest weighing 3155 pounds and pulling 7500 pounds 272 feet. Christlieb traveled 547 miles from Eden Ohio to compete. Gordon Skinis won the heavier class with 3900 pounds. Local crowd enjoyed the barbecue as part of the event.

The top ten Monroe Dairy Queen candidates in the nominations week were announced by Mrs. Roger Stauffacher. Traffic Signals Operational by Tuesday at Monroe Intersection

Monroe's first electric traffic control signals will begin on Tuesday at the 9th St and 16th Ave intersection after years of citizen urging and city studies. The system will manage all vehicle and pedestrian traffic with timed patterns from 6 am to 11 pm and reduced nighttime operation, plus a third lane added on 9th St to improve flow.
