Opponents Win Delay Fill to Limit Gas Commission Authority
After 95 minutes of debate in the assembly, opponents scored a victory as a measure to let the state public service commission approve community contracts was indefinitely postponed by a 52 to 39 vote. A companion bill to repeal the gas tax is in joint finance. Lenroot urged killing it to preserve home rule and avoid granting the commission power to force gas on unwilling residents. The senate advanced a compromise bill permitting transportation of children to standard schools, ensuring districts providing transport must offer it to all attending standard schools. Maurice Conners returned to St Francis Seminary in Milwaukee after visiting his parents.
