Heavy rains and a tornado struck the Rockford Illinois region early yesterday flooding a gully and destroying a home where Mrs. Ollie McGruder and her 7 year old grandson died, while a New Jersey artist perished in a separate crash during the downpour. Bridges were washed out on Illinois 2 and U.S. 51, and the Morrison Mt. Morris area suffered at least 75000 dollars in damage. Civil Defense and Red Cross aided flood victims as more rain and warm temperatures were forecast for Wisconsin and Illinois.

Power Outage Hits St. Clare Hospital for Half Hour
A 5,000-volt transformer at the Wisconsin Power and Light substation failed during work on Beloit lines causing a half hour outage from 7:10 to 7:40 a.m. in St. Clare Hospital and the east city. Power returned by 7:40 a.m. with a brief second interruption at 8 a.m. during transformer testing. The auxiliary system kept operating rooms and delivery areas, though elevators were not on the auxiliary feed, and breakfast had already been served.
