In Madison Wisconsin a random drawing selected 150 names to form a pool for a grand jury probe of the 1970 Sterling Hall bombing. Circuit Court Judge Norris Maloney announced that questioning starts July 29 to reduce the panel to 17 members.
Gov. Patrick J. Lucey signed laws requiring legislative referral to the Interstate Cooperation Commission for interstate agreement bills and prioritizing pension welfare and vacation payments in probate estates. The package also exempts semen used for artificial insemination of livestock from sales tax and directs municipal clerks to file assessment statements with the supervisor of assessments.
Keith Robert Gullen, 33, was arraigned in Rhinelander on Aug. 3 facing first degree murder charges for the Jan. 30 1963 killings of Mrs. Helen Heinen 34 and her 2 year old daughter in their Newbold home. Gullen, who spent eight years in Central State Hospital Waupun, was found able to stand trial.
