U S Officer Dies In Viet Nam Ambush North Of Saigon

In a battle 40 miles north of Saigon a U S Army captain and at least 23 Vietnamese soldiers were killed when a government convoy was ambushed by Viet Cong forces. A relief force arrived and air support pursued the attackers as two U S officers previously died nearby on June 16.

Mrs Johnson Lamont 86 Dies After Stroke at St Clare

Mrs Clara Emma Johnson aged 86 from Lamont died yesterday at 1 30 PM at St Clare hospital after a stroke. Born March 16 1876 in Argyle Township she married Edward Johnson in 1896. Survived by son Ernest of Argyle daughters Eva Watkins Lamont and Mrs Zimmerman Lamont 16 grandchildren 27 great grandchildren. Army worm warnings issued for Green County crops

Green County farmers are advised to check small grain and corn fields for army worms, already found in two areas east of Montiecelo and south of Browntown. Infestations are in corn. damage is minor but spray not yet required. Also patches in Mt. Vernon and Belleville area in Dare County. A June outbreak was predicted. The worm is small, smooth caterpillar with yellow side stripe. A separate stalk borer is causing more damage. many are deep in stalks, hard to kill by spraying. Red tanks near Berlin wall withdraw after hours standoff

West Berlin police reported three East German tanks moved toward the Red Wall dividing Berlin today but withdrew after about three hours with no explanation. Police said they knew of no incident in the area.

Deputies Log Five Mishap Investigations In 16 Hours

Sheriffs deputies investigated five traffic crashes in a 16 hour period with four people injured. One man Bruce Miller was hospitalized after a one car wreck on Highway 59 near the state line. Woman Legislator Named to Bell Post
