Black White Show Slated for Tuesday

AP dispatches report a Viet Cong ambush near Da Nang in which nine American paratroopers were killed and seven wounded after a day-long engagement with the 101st Airborne Division. The clash involved heavy small arms fire and air support, continuing for about seven hours until nightfall.

Green County approves highway land purchase and joint storage facility

In a July meeting at the courthouse the Green County Board transferred 45000 from the general fund to acquire an acre in Decatur for a county highway equipment storage garage shared with Brodhead and Decatur townships. If statutes permit, the building may be county owned with a lease to the towns. otherwise it would be built by Green County Highway Department and partly leased. The facility will replace former sites and store machinery gasoline and salt, with the county’s share around 20000. A state 4775 check was acknowledged for land near Green County Hospital Turn to No. 2. On the back page, 200 entries are planned for the Wisconsin Championship Black and White Show set for Tuesday in Monroe, with 250-300 entries expected.

Brown Swiss Canton Contest Moves to Mineral Point Fairgrounds

Brown Swiss breeders from Green and Lafayette counties will hold the Canton 2 Show at Mineral Point fairgrounds after the Darlington site flooded. About 85 cattle and 20 exhibitors are expected with junior and open show classes starting around 10 a.m. A canton queen is chosen at noon and will compete later at the July 27 state picnic at Narrows Valley Farm.

Snow White puppet show set in auditorium tonight

Two Hurt In Area Mishaps From Local Traffic Crashes

Two separate accidents injuring three people were reported by the Sheriff's Department. Dennis D. Gilbertson, 17, Monroe, and Ronald D. Leck, 16, were hurt when Gilbertson’s car left a highway, hit a ditch and objects before rolling over. Both were taken to St. Clare Hospital. A second crash near Monroe involved Herman A. Tschudy, 18, Route 1, skidding and striking a fence. he suffered a head cut.

Diver Hurt Diving at Whitewater Lake On Fourth of July

Gene Baker of Wad sworth Illinois was hospitalized with a cracked neck vertebra and neck ligament injuries after diving into Whitewater Lake during a Fourth of July vacation. He is improving at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan and may be released in about a week if his condition continues to improve.

Guardsmen Prepare for Camp McCoy Training Trek

Guardsmen from the Monroe area will depart the Monroe Armory at 5:30 a.m. Saturday for a two week training camp at Camp McCoy Wisconsin. An advance party leaves Thursday in two trucks and a car.
