Windy Acres Resort Expands Under Eiserman Krieger Ownership

Windy Acres, five miles southeast of Monroe, grew since 1961 under John Eiserman and James Krieger. They added a public pool, remodeled dining room, opened a cocktail lounge, and built a driving range drawing golfers from Monroe and northern Illinois. The brothers-in-law now have 18 children and run a popular rural retreat attracting families and visitors seeking outdoor leisure.

Assembly Panel Eyes Tax Hike For Safer Plates And Elections Rewrite

Pedro Ramet 15 year old Scout from Buena Park Calif wins a two week Switzerland trip. He will be met in Madison by New Glarus delegates and Maennerchor on Monday then meet Gov Knowles at the Capitol. He will be vested with honorary citizenship in New Glarus and carry messages from U.S. leaders to Swiss officials. He departs to New York City Tuesday for White House escort.

Welcome rain returned last night aided by strong winds that damaged corn and oats in several areas. The .68 inch total in Monroe area boosts hay and oats growth while corn appears to have grown overnight. Damage extent remains undetermined as losses are surveyed and winds about the county continue.

Green County Fair to Present Spot Young Trophy in Harness Events

A memorial trophy honoring Ray Arthur Spot Young will be awarded to the 3-year-old trot winner at the Green County Fair harness program on Sunday August 1. His daughter Kathryn Zweifel of Evanston Illinois funds the Spot Young Trophy and his family plans to enter Arlie Frost in the free-for-all pace. The two day event runs July 31 to August 1 with multiple races and prep work underway at the fair grounds including tree removal and office renovations.

Three Day Chase Ends Near State Lines in Nevada

Oregon murder kidnapping suspects Wilbur Grey and Carl Bowles surrendered to highway patrol near Tonopah Nevada after a three day pursuit that included a bank robbery and the slaying of a deputy. They released two hostages, were wounded once, and were taken into custody for transport to Sacramento for further proceedings.
