Dale Alexander to Be Lieutenant at Wisconsin Academy

Staff Sgt Dale F Alexander of Monroe has been accepted at Ft. Lewis as an officer candidate for the Wisconsin Military Academy at Madison He will be commissioned a second lieutenant in August 1963 after completing 270 hours of training including 90 at Ft Lewis Robert French of Monroe serving with Troop B Second Reconnaissance Squadron 105th Cavalry has also been promoted to private first class at Ft Lewis.

Monroe High Junior Back From European Tour

Monroe High School junior Kenneth Krattiger returned Saturday from Europe where he toured with the United States of America High School Band as an assistant solo cornetist. His selection featured him in a cornet trio that performed at every concert.

Mrs Marty 79 of Monticello Dies at St Clare Hospital

Mrs. Mathias Marty born Fan ny Stauffer in Finland on January 24 1883 died at 12 50 am in St Clare hospital Monticello after admission June 19 as a medical patient. Survived by five sons one daughter a brother and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services in Zwingli church Wednesday at 2 pm with Rev J Allan Mittler officiating. Burial in Highland cemetery.

Three Drowned In Boat Mishap On Lake Monona

A 14 foot runabout on Lake Monona capsized Sunday night after striking rocks, tossing nine aboard into 35 mph winds. Three died: Eugene Gates 26 Madison Mrs Evelyn Osborne 40 Wonewoe and Debbie Osborne 16 months. Rescued were Gates wife Shirley and Osbornes husband George and four children.

Will Unload Vehicles 32nd Advance Units Start Leaving July 25

Advance units of Wisconsin's 32nd Division will depart Fort Lewis on July 25 and 26 to unload vehicles and property at rail centers in Wisconsin and set up 72 armories. About 2,300 men will move first, with 8,100 more leaving August 13. Main body return to Wisconsin expected six to seven days after arrival.

Hostess Heroine 16 Saved in Fiery Airliner Crash

In Amarillo a Continental turboprop caught fire and crashed three minutes after takeoff. Captain Lauratis and First Officer Gorman survived with all 16 aboard. hostess Linda Howard guided passengers to safety as flames spread from the right wing and the plane landed in a harvested wheat field 2 1/2 miles from the runway end.

Smull Couple Crash Victims Details and Funeral Plans

A. Veril Smull 44 of Rockford and his wife Frances 41 were injured fatally Saturday when their car left Illinois Route 2 between Rockford and Byron. Veril died at Rockford Memorial Hospital at 1 25 a m. Frances died 10 hours later. Frances body was taken to Clinton Iowa. Veril was a World War II veteran and a member of Monroe s Company with multiple honors. Frances operated a Rockford beauty shop. Services for Veril Smull are set for 1 30 p m tomorrow at Stuessy Funeral Home with Rev. Burton L Holling officiating. Military rites will be at Cadiz Cemetery by the Rockford VFW post. Surviving: parents Arch ie and Hazel Small two children Judy 15 and Jerry 13 a brother Michael and four sisters. Frances Rubiam an is listed as his wife from Chicago.

Local Armory Rental Halted

The Monroe Armory is being prepared for the return of Co. B and is no longer rentable. Custodian Wilbur E. Deininger notes refinished floors on both levels. A Janesville firm held the state contract. Veteran guardsman William Niederberger, back from Ft. Lewis, continues caretaker duties. Maj. Theodore J. Burgy, Monroe, returned to Ft. Lewis after a week in Wisconsin to plan the division's return.

Wisconsin Treasurer Blocks Court Fees for Districting Case

State Treasurer Dena Smith refused to sign a $3,500 check to cover court costs for a federal reapportionment suit. In letters to Gov. Nelson and Atty. Gen. Reynolds, she called the payment an improper expenditure and questioned whether the state should share costs with six plaintiffs. Reynolds ordered the check to be drawn to pay five Waukesha County residents named in the suit.
