Bomb Explodes in Chicago Causes Window Shatter and Bricks

An early Sunday blast on Chicago's North Side shattered windows at a residential hotel and the Checker Cab Company garage. The Edgecomb Hotel lost bricks but no injuries were reported. police recovered batteries and wiring suggesting a bomb.

Man Charged in Destruction of Government Property

In Minneapolis a minor Sunday fire damaged records at the Hennepin County Selective Service office. Robert G. Scarlett, 20, of Minneapolis, was held and faces formal charges of destruction of government property. He suffered first and second degree burns and was treated at Hennepin County General Hospital.

NASA scientist loses moon fragment at Goddard Center

Dr. Nicholas M. Short of NASA reported a moon fragment weighing one fifth of an ounce missing from a safe at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt Maryland. The fragment about two thirds the size of a garden pen was stored in a vial and Short hopes it will be recovered.

Wisconsin Fourth of July toll rises to 17 deaths

The long holiday weekend ends with 17 fatalities across Wisconsin in highway crashes raising the state toll to 505 for the period ending Sunday. Shullsburg Man Killed In Car Crash Near Darlington

John H. Lyne 21 of Route 1 Shullsburg died when his car left County Trunk 6 in Seymour Township rolled several times and caught fire. Coroner cites skull fracture. David Kunst and his brother John Kunst journeyed through Richland Center on the second leg of their UNICEF worldwide hike. The duo, ages 30 and 23, with their pack mule, plan to reach the East Coast then fly to Portugal to press on toward the Pacific via the Soviet route.
