Union School District Electors Approve 1950 51 Budget
Union school district No. 1 approved a 265000 dollar budget for the 1950 51 year and discussed additions to East and South units. A new trustee, Mrs Harold C Heimann, was elected to a two year term, becoming the second woman on the board. Herbert T Johnson was re elected president. Dr Leslie G Kindschi was re elected trustee. Seventy one attended the annual meeting in the high school auditorium. The board was authorized to petition the state legislature for amendment to the constitution.

Wisconsin Fourth of July Toll Rises to Eighteen
The four day Fourth of July weekend in Wisconsin saw 18 violent deaths from Friday 6 p m to midnight, about half of last year’s 32. Drownings were down due to cool weather while 12 died on highways and six in miscellaneous accidents including a LaCrosse airplane crash. Notable fatalities included Fort Wayne couples in a single engine plane crash near LaCrosse and several local traffic and accident victims across Dane, Chippewa, Jefferson and surrounding counties.

Brilliant July Fourth fireworks end with safe crowd in Monroe area
A crowd of 5 000 to 7 000 gathered at Recreation Park for the July 4th finale. Fireworks set off from Monroe Country Club grounds by city volunteer firemen followed a Park band concert led by Allan F. Barnard.
