Brodhead Marches To Four City Races In April 7 election
Four city races form the Brodhead slate after nomination papers were filed by 5 p m. April 7 will see mayoral contests between Herbert Stuessy and Carl Synstegard. Stuessy is school district treasurer and Mutual Farmers Insurance secretary. Synstegard is a former mayor who runs a local bowling alley. Ward races see Donald Witte and John Wish for the Third and Fourth Wards, while Richard Markham’s seat is open. Incumbents in the Third and Fourth Wards face Delbert Heins and Marvin Hoff respectively, with Hoff a past contender. County board seats in Brodhead go to Stanley Knight and Ben Deininger, unopposed in their wards, with terms extending to 1965.

Saturn 1 rocket sends satellite into orbit at Cape Kennedy
The Saturn 1 lifted from Cape Kennedy at 10 25 a m with a 164 foot tall 562 ton craft. It deployed an 84 foot long 37 700 pound satellite in orbit proving U S capability for future lunar missions. The first stage produced 1 5 million pounds of thrust as the six engine second stage fired for the first time and delivered 90 000 pounds of thrust. A tracking radar interference delayed the countdown but the rocket cleared the sky for a successful test flight.
