Alva Williams Taken by Death

Alva B Williams 7 of 1619 10th St Monroe resident since 1913 and WWI veteran died at 3 50 a m in St Clare Hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage. He was a rural mail carrier and night hotel clerk, born November 8 1890 in Frostburg PA and survived by wife two daughters two sons and siblings. Services Thursday at 2 p m at Sinessy Funeral Home with burial Greenwood Cemetery.

Four Crewmen Die in Viet Air Transport Crash

A U.S. Air Force troop transport with 46 Americans and mortar shells crashed near An Khe in dense fog. All aboard were killed. The C123 Provider plunged into a hillside five miles east of An Khe. The crew of four was from the 315th Air Commandos and 42 soldiers of the 7th Cavalry. It was described as the worst American air crash in Vietnam to date. Ammunition exploded in the heat. A search party reached the scene in heavy rain as the cause remained under investigation.

Monroe firefighters responded to the Eugene Lueck residence at 2015 8th St. yesterday at 2 29 pm when a clothes dryer ignited. Fire Chief Josef J. Benkert said clothes inside the drum burned and a small amount of smoke issued from the unit.

Highway 69 bypass plans move forward in 1967 survey work

Harvey Elmer, city engineer, told the Board of Public Works five surveyor applications were received for the proposed Highway 69 bypass. Initial work is slated for 1967 with aims to finish within the year. The route would start west of Behring Motors and pass north of the Industrial Park to connect with Highway 81. The state plans a statewide extension north of Monroe to Swiss Cheese Shop. Elmer may attend a Madison Public Works inspection seminar. The board will review sewage plant staff additions and approve a $3,496 assessment to Roger Voelkli for lift station costs in a new subdivision south of the Monroe Country Club. Milford Rundle praised the Monroe plant as among Wisconsin’s best.

Judge Reads Indictment in Krebiozen Fraud Case

In Chicago a federal judge continued reading to the jury a 78 page indictment against four sponsors of Krebiozen. The government says the drug is worthless for cancer and the defendants engaged in fraud in handling it.
