Milk price rise for October Swiss cheese makers
The October 1953 average price paid for milk to Swiss cheese factories was 3.537 per hundredweight, up 10.8 cents from September. Average butterfat 3.52, milk production down 6 percent from a year earlier, farmers’ net income down about 15 percent. Fred Bruny aged 63 died in Tacoma of a heart attack. Born March 15, 1890 in Green County, he served in World War I and was a barber for 35 years. He moved to Tacoma in 1918 and is survived by brothers Jacob and Sam in Monroe, Edward in Canton Illinois, five sisters in Saskatchewan Canada St Paul and Miami, with funeral services pending at Shriner Neushwander.

A 32 by 100 foot barn on Lester Dearth’s farm seven miles southwest of Blanchardville burned after starting at 11 a.m. Blanchardville fire department with 18 men prevented spread to nearby buildings. All 60 cattle were saved. hay and feed in upper loft were lost. Damage estimated at 10,000 dollars.

Fred Schroeder of Wiota Dies After Stroke
Frederick Schroeder 78 of Wiota died this morning at Lafayette County Memorial Hospital Darlington after a stroke. He was born December 22 1875 in Jefferson County to John and Elizabeth Schroeder.
