The Nixon administration will slash funding for low income rural housing by about one third for the current fiscal year. The Farmers Home Administration program, in the Agriculture Department, was previously funded at 1.4 billion dollars for the year ending June 30.

Bids Sought for 22 Highway Jobs Across 22 Counties

AP dispatch reports the state Highway Commission will receive bids Tuesday on 22 maintenance and construction projects in 22 counties including Milwaukee safety, painting, lights and signs work. In Manitowoc, a county judge released Dennis Faber 20 Walders from murder charges after finding insufficient evidence for a first degree case.

Fire destroys old Twin Grove school building

The old Twin Grove schoolhouse, moved to Kenneth Reed farm Route 1 Monroe about 15 years ago, burned Tuesday afternoon. Juda volunteer Fire Department received 2 p.m. call and Mutual Aid from Monroe at 2 54 p.m. Water hauled from Twin Grove. no damage estimate yet. Reed discovered fire as he descended from the fodder mow. heater had been recently inspected. Farm lies six miles southwest of Juda.

City Fire Losses In Monroe Near 1970 Report

Fire Chief Joseph Benkert presented Monroe city fire losses for 1970 totaling 35 138 in buildings and 16 332 in contents. Fires requiring call totaled 34 775 in buildings and 15 775 in contents. Two major fires at Mrs Kublys trailer in March and William Parks residence on Dec 17 accounted for much of the losses. The department answered 30 city calls and 20 rural calls, aided others five times and was aided twice.

Coast Guard Admiral Awarded Before Defection Incident

Retired Coast Guard admiral William B. Ellis had received a Legion of Merit for leadership and sound judgment a few months before a scandal over the Nov 23 Kudirka incident. Search Continues In Madison Killing

Madison sheriff's deputies pursued two men wanted in the fatal shooting of 23 year old Richard J. Brettinger. The search focused on a 1970 purple model car and followed a dispute over a traffic infraction on Fish Hatchery Road in Madison. Brettinger was an unemployed construction worker.
