Janesville report shows 6 320 job orders across ten USES offices in the Madison Fox River Valley area as of January 1 1945 awaiting workers for war industry jobs. Offices in Beloit Janesville Beaver Dam Madison Watertown Fond du Lac Oshkosh Appleton Neenah Menasha and Lancaster serve 20 counties and handle heavy employment demand. Fire destroys hotel as 33 pieces of equipment respond
A midnight blaze at a hotel drew 33 apparatus and a large crowd of spectators before it was controlled after 3 am. Investigators sought the origin while two servicemen, Corp. James Boudreaux of Mermentau Louisiana and Stephan Droter of Toledo, helped seven people to safety by lowering the lower fire escape. Boudreaux boosted Droter onto his shoulders during the rescue.

They crossed the Gustav line through Scauri Formia Itri Fondi and Sonnino sealing Highway 7 south of the Pontine marshes before a rest in Rome. They later held lines along the Arno near Florence and captured Mt Frena Coloreta LaFine Ribele and Castlevecchio while reclaiming firm positions on the Gothic line.
