1914 Monroe fire tests firemen at four story blaze
A January 13 1914 fire in Monroe destroyed the old Miller Mfg Co building and damaged nearby properties including the Green County Herald causing relocation. The blaze spread from the Karlen and May garage and tested the volunteer fire department before the site was rebuilt as Monroe Sales Co quarters housing autos silos and farm equipment.

Dimes Airlift Set for Sunday at Monroe Airport
The March of Dimes Penny-A-Pound Airlift will be held Sunday at the new Monroe air port east of Highway 59 starting 8:30 a.m. with planes flying until dusk weather permitting. City Plans Remodeling to House Civil Defense Communications
The City Council authorized about 300 to remodel a basement room in City Hall for Civil Defense communications.
