Milwaukee officials suspend a city and county worker strike that affected 12 000 employees and prompted talks to a fact finding panel The stoppage was the largest of its kind in state history and involved street cleaners airport workers janitors clerks secretaries jail staff and hospital workers.
E Howard Hunt Jr. pleads guilty for a second time and is kept in custody after Judge Sirica accepts the plea removing him from the main Watergate burglary trial. The court seeks to determine the essential accuracy of the prosecution opening statement while Hunt faces up to 50 years in prison and $40,000 in fines.
North Vietnam said it will not be intimidated by American bombing or force and will not accept terms it deems unreasonable. Kissinger and Tho met for the fourth day with experts, signaling deeper talks but no progress on core issues. Hanoi rejects Thieu as sole South Vietnamese government and opposes recognizing the 17th parallel as a border.

A deadly tornado struck San Justo 300 miles north of Buenos Aires causing at least 46 deaths and over 300 injuries. The 15 to 20 minute surge shredded 30 percent of buildings, cut communications, and isolated the grain belt city as rescue teams deployed emergency generators and flood lamps.
