Special Equipment May Be Needed On Plant Cleanup
Street Superintendent Jack Erb reports that special gear may be required to finish cleaning the digester unit at the sewage treatment plant. The project, ongoing for about two months, faces issues with grit removal as pumps fail and forced air is tried. City officials back a $400,000 expansion only if existing equipment can be fully repaired, and a public emergency allows necessary expenditures.

Proctor Faces Court Quiz Over Dismissals Of 489 Traffic Charges
Madison Superior Court Judge Roy H. Proctor must appear in Circuit Court on March 6 to explain why he dismissed 489 traffic violation cases. The petition, filed after talks with James Karns of the State Motor Vehicle Department, argues most dismissals left only costs and harmed the point system and community safety. It cites 1960 totals of 322 hazardous violations and 157 other traffic cases dismissed with costs. Proctor may also have to justify not needing consent of the district attorney to change drunken driving charges to reckless driving.
